Energy

Michigan relies heavily on coal-fired power plants, which is a large drain on our economy because we import 100% of this coal from neighboring states. Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy produced right here in Michigan can help stimulate emerging businesses, create new and useful jobs, and reduce carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

Michigan has an excellent potential for developing in-state wind power and other renewable energy resources. In addition, as the leader in car manufacturing, Detroit and the rest of the state have jumpstarted a new generation of electric vehicles with the 2010 Chevy Volt.  The issues and solutions presented in this section represent the future of smarter energy production and commonsense efficiency standards.
