SB 867 prohibits the sale or prescription of any health product used for treatment of lice that contains the pesticide lindane, except when a patient’s use is directly supervised by a physician. Lindane is a toxic pesticide that has been associated with neurological and immunological effects & cancer. It has been banned from agricultural use because of these harmful effects, but has continually been used as a medication for lice treatment for children. Violation of the terms specified in SB 867 would result in a misdemeanor and fine.
